A Green Mountain Getaway
BURLINGTON, VT. — Located on beautiful Lake Champlain, Burlington makes for an ideal getaway any time of year. Vermont’s largest city and home to the University of Vermont, Burlington is lovely in the fall when the leaves change and also makes a nice home base during ski season. In the summer, it’s a destination for hiking and spending time on the lake as well as shopping in the great little downtown. Luckily, since those activities will work up an appetite, you’ll also find great local food. Our itinerary explores some favorite Burlington restaurants and also takes you to Stowe, a charming mountain town that’s 45 minutes away. It’s worth the side trip to spend time on The Alchemist Brewery’s sprawling patio, but you won’t just be making the drive for beer — along the way, we’re also stopping for a fried chicken sandwich with maple mayo and an ice cream cone.
Fly into Burlington International Airport (Tip: There’s an outpost of local favorite The Skinny Pancake there so you can grab a crepe filled with maple sugar and melted butter or spinach and cheddar before your outbound flight.) or make the scenic drive from elsewhere in the Northeast. So much deliciousness awaits.
