Summer by the Lake in Southwest Michigan
HARBOR COUNTRY, MICH. — While we’ve enjoyed spending time in Harbor Country across all four seasons, summertime is special. Local fruits and vegetables are on menus and at farmstands. It’s warm enough to stroll along the Lake Michigan beaches. Patios open up at wineries and breweries. While it’s more crowded than the other three seasons, the waits are worth it — summer means strawberry shakes at Nancy’s in New Buffalo, beers on the patio at Seedz Brewery in Union Pier, and boxes of fried lake perch at Flagship Specialty Foods & Fish Market in Lakeside.
Harbor Country is located just over the border from Indiana and includes the towns of New Buffalo, Union Pier, Three Oaks, Lakeside, Grand Beach, Michiana, Harbert, and Sawyer. We’ve extended our coverage area a little bit further north, into Benton Harbor and Stevensville, since these towns offer great eating and drinking that we feel you can’t miss (we also have one spot we adore just over the border in Indiana). Ready to go? Let’s start in Stevensville, a village of 1,100 with great burgers, beers, and more.
